Many would like to escape (myself included) but few do it. This lovely, gentle, book follows the Beat family in their escape from wage slavery to a Devon smallholding. Based on a series of articles Alan wrote for various magazines from 1990 to 1997 (we're looking forward to the second volume). Good common sense, handy hints and tips, a fair price and a positive attitude to the uncertainty of the smallholders lot make this a must read for newcomers and old hands alike.
